Leadership Symposium

Date: Feb 10, 2012 • 12:30 PM - 05:30 PM

Location: Portland, OR

Price: $0

What’s a Leadership Symposium?

Two of the Northwest Credit Union Association’s top strategic objectives include: working to improve and evolve the charter and lessen the regulatory burden on credit unions, and fostering unity among credit unions throughout the Northwest. The Leadership Symposium is a trio of meetings creating:

  • An opportunity to Interact with government officials such as top regulators and legislative leadership;
  • An environment designed to foster communication between the Association and members; and
  • Perhaps most importantly, an forum for networking and idea exchange between credit unions

Who should attend?

The Leadership Symposium is open to all Oregon and Washington CEOs. CEOs may also invite an additional staff or board member to attend at their discretion. From time to time topics may be of interest to more than one staff member at your credit union, and exceptions to this general rule will be delightfully granted if additional staff members will benefit from, round-out, and add to the discussion anticipated at the Symposium.

Agenda:

12:30 p.m. Welcome
12:35 p.m.

Regulatory Forum

The regulatory forum gives attendees an opportunity to dialog with state regulators, and gives our regulators the opportunity to present new issues to the credit union community. It also gives the Association a chance to hear the biggest concerns of our members. The regulatory forum portion of the February agenda will cover hot regulatory topics and offer an opportunity for questions and answers.

Regulatory forum guests include:

  • Mike Dyer, Associate Regional Director, NCUA Region V
  • Linda Jekel, Director, Division of Credit Unions, DFI
  • Mike Delimont, Program Manager, Division of Credit Unions, DFI
  • Janet Powell, Manager, Credit Union Program, Oregon DCBS/DFCS

Discussion facilitated by:

  • Debie Keesee, Chair, Washington Governmental Affairs Committee
  • Jean Wheat-Palm, Chair, Oregon Governmental Affairs Committee

Group Hot Topic Discussion

What are you experiencing post-move your money? What’s the outcome? Are you retaining your members? How? Are these new members taking out loans? Filene Research Institute Chief Finance & Strategy Officer Denise Gabel will lead our spirited and timely discussion.

Prize-Linked Savings Programs and its Longitudinal Effect on Member Savings

Now that prize-linked savings programs have been in place in Michigan for a couple of years, are they having a long-term impact on consumer behavior? Filene Research Institute’s Denise Gabel will present the Institute’s latest research results and lead a discussion concerning how credit unions can use this information, and information on how credit unions could use other incentive-based savings programs.

3:15 p.m.

Libation Break

We all know that the real discussions often take place during the break or at the bar following
a meeting, so we’re providing just this opportunity. Wine and beer will be hosted.

3:35 p.m.

Association Update

Association leadership will provide quick updates on top Association priorities, an update on the recent redistricting vote, and take questions from participants.

4:15 p.m.

Table Topics Discussion

One of the Northwest Credit Union Association’s top strategic objectives includes fostering unity among our members, with the understanding that we’re better and stronger working together. We’ve set aside time at this Leadership Symposium to foster communication and idea exchange through a table topics discussion. Each table will be assigned a topic chosen by participants and you’ll have the opportunity to choose topics that you’re interested in talking to your colleagues about. We’ll have some topics pre-chosen to kick-off the discussions, but if you have a burning issue, bring it! We’ll add it to a table and start a new discussion.
